Three passengers killed, 22 injured in accident

Three persons died in an accident at Dumkauli in Devchuli Municipality, Nawalpur, on the East-West highway this morning.

According to police, the accident occurred when an east-bound bus and a truck heading towards the west collided, with a motoribke, which was following close behind the truck. The bike also ran into the truck.


Seriously injured in the accident the three persons died in the course of treatment. While two of them died at Bharatpur-based old medical college, the third person died at Manakamana Hospital.

They have been identified as 65-year-old Kumari Sunari and Jamuna Mapachhan, 70, of Gaidakot and an unidentified person in her late thirties, whose address is yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, twenty-two others were injured in the accident.

Of them, one is undergoing treatment at the old medical college, nine at the new medical college (CMC) and 11 others at Manakamana Hospital in Bharatpur. The remaining one is being treated at the primary health centre of Dumkauli.

All the deceased and the injured were passengers of the bus.
Police have detained the truck driver Phadindra Chaudhary, 26, of Kalika Municipality, Chitwan. The bus driver is at large police have said they are searching for him.
