Kathmandu, 13th May 2019,
Nepal Police has launched two special bureaus to combat human trafficking and cybercrime.
Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal inaugurated the bureaus in the Capital on Sunday. The human trafficking bureau will operate from Babar Mahal and the cybercrime bureau from Bhotahiti.
With the dedicated bureaus in place, Nepal Police hopes to the investigate and prevent human trafficking and cybercrime more effectively.
“The two bureaus had been a must since the cases related to human trafficking and cybercrime have been increasing. Both bureaus will effectively handle the cases within their provinces,” Khanal told the Post.
The cybercrime bureau is being led by Deputy Inspector General of Police Bikash Shrestha while Senior Superintendent of Police Ishwar Babu Karki heads the human trafficking bureau.
“With maximum numbers of technical experts in the bureau, the investigation of cases related to cyber crimes will now be more effective,” Shrestha told the Post. “We are still in the process to import some software and hardware.”
Senior officers at the human trafficking bureau said the bureau will focus on investigating and preventing human trade.
“With a bureau dedicated to human trafficking, the cases will now be investigated deeply in order to arrest the major people behind trafficking rackets,” Karki told the Post.
The government had approved the plan of establishing the two bureaus last year.
